Update: July 2021
It’s been almost 9 years since the original release of Charger Alert for Android. Since that time multiple BlackBerry versions were released and updated with new features and improvements.
Now it’s time to bring those features to Android with a complete rewrite of Charger Alert from the ground up!
Stay tuned: Follow us on Twitter or check back here for news on the release of Charger Alert v2 for Android!
Charger Alert v3.3 for BlackBerry 10 has been released at BlackBerry World.
In addition to the various improvements and fixes in this release, the alerts system has been overhauled to automatically stop when no longer necessary, and a log of all recent alerts are presented to you when opening the app.
You can now also set the LED to flash in a colour of your choice while your device is charging.
What’s new in v3.3:
- Improved the battery monitor for better efficiency and accuracy.
- Alerts now automatically stop when appropriate, e.g. Hot battery alert stops when no longer hot, Unplugged alert stops when replugged, etc. This can be prevented for the Unplugged alert as a security measure.
- Opening the app now displays a log of all alert messages since it was last opened.
- Replaced the battery condition status with a health percentage level.
- Added the option (in Settings) for flashing the LED while charging.
- Added the option (in Settings) to choose between single or multiple hub notifications.
- Prevent plugged in alert from sounding if the device is in silent mode.
- Fixed an issue with the update process.
- Other minor fixes and improvements.
A pre-release test version of Charger Alert is now available to download at the BlackBerry Beta Zone.
This is a beta version for testing purposes to find & fix any bugs before it is released to BlackBerry World.
To gain access to beta versions, you’ll need to download the official BlackBerry Beta Zone app to your BlackBerry 10 device from BlackBerry World.
“With the BlackBerry Beta Zone app, you can test and contribute to BlackBerry 10 beta products before they are ready for the public.”
Once you’ve installed the BlackBerry Beta Zone app and registered, you’ll then be able to join the Charger Alert program to download it.
In particular, we are looking to test the unplugged and full battery alert functionality, as users have reported issues with these previously. The battery monitoring aspect within the app has been rewritten and improved so these alerts should be fully working for everybody now.
However, if you discover any problems or have any feedback, please send them in.
